ZT2 ES Transportation - Understanding Tours Part III: Tour Objects
This article is an original, copyrighted work and protected under copyright laws. Members have permission to print pages or email them to yourself for your own personal use, however, please do not distribute them without express permission from the author!

Tour objects provide extra visual stimulation for guests, boost the tour rating, and increase donations. Some guests really want to see objects on tours while others focus mainly on the animals. The tour rating is impacted by tour objects but is much more dependent on whether or not guests see lots of happy, healthy animals. Tour objects, while fun and interesting, do not much improve a tour with only a few animals. Tour objects do provide that little something extra that leave some guests exclaiming, "This zoo really went out of its way to put cool objects on that tour."

As might be expected, tour objects can have a greater impact when used on the Jeep tours, but sky tram guests notice tour objects also. Two objects, the Crystal Tunnel and the Sequoia Tunnel, are really only fun on the Jeep tour. On both types of tours, objects in action almost always elicit positive comments from guests. These objects are:
  • Snow Machine
  • Bat Cave
  • Geyser
  • Fog Machine
  • Volcano
Of all the tour objects, only one -- the Rock Pool -- has an upkeep charge. Once purchased, all tour objects can be moved to a new location. The following list shows the charge for each tour object as well as the zoo fame level at which they are available in the Campaign and Challenge mode. Tour objects do not need to be researched. All nine are all available at the beginning of any Freeform game.

One-star level
Mineral Deposit - $750
Snow Machine - $500

Two-star level
Bat Cave - $1000
Geyser - $1200

Three-star level
Crystal Tunnel - $1200
Fog Machine - $500

Four-star level
Rock Pool - $1500, with a monthly upkeep charge of $50
Volcano - $1750

Five-star level
Sequoia Tunnel - $2000

The in-game Zoopedia gives some information about which biomes go with which objects, but does not match all nine tour objects with specific biomes. Zoopedia only matches four objects with specific biomes or animals. They are:
  • Fog Machine - Wetlands
  • Mineral Deposit - Desert or Scrub
  • Rock Pool - Tropical Rainforest
  • Snow Machine - Tundra
This author's suggestions are given for the remaining five tour objects, however, other possibilities exist for all objects except the Sequoia Tunnel.
  • Crystal Tunnel - Alpine or Desert
  • Bat Cave - Grassland or Temperate Forest
  • Geyser - Alpine or Savannah
  • Sequoia Tunnel - Boreal Forest
  • Volcano - Savannah, Scrub, or Tropical Rainforest
Tour objects certainly make tours more fun for guests as well as the Zoo Tycoon gamer. One good way to determine where the tour needs a tour object is to ride the tour and notice any dull stretches. Then, build away!

The bat cave also looks good in tropical rainforest and wetlands exhibits.

Anya,

I haven't played much with the tours still, but I wanted to thank you for these as they are really helpful for me.

I really wouldn't have thought to use these items on the tour, I usually use them in the zoo as playground or front exhibit items. blush.gif

I still need more practice in general. laugh.gif But....

Thank you! flowers.gif

Oh, AQ, you're a sweetie! flowers.gif smile.gif It is interesting to work with the tours and try different things. I really think the placement of the station/s is important. I hope you try them out a little more and then you can be the one to give us pointers. biggrin.gif

Awesome info page biggrin.gif loved it.

I find that the Volcano looks good in the Alpine as well and I find that I put the geyser in the grasslands exhibit. But of course, that's just me and I just think the tour objects are cool, wish there were more biggrin.gif I wish there was a savanah one though, I've started using the Kapoje (or however you spell it) in that biome and the guests have seemed to think it's kinda cool, but I could be wrong.
